This document is an agreement between a man named John Dibell, and Jacobus Van Cortlandt (John Jay’s maternal ancestor) in which Mr. Dibell is agreeing to sell a sizable tract of his land in Bedford to Jacobus. Since Jacobus bequeathed a large plot of his Bedford land to Peter Jay (John Jay’s father) in 1743, It is possible that the land Jacobus purchased in this agreement is the very land that the Homestead is located on today.
