Alexander Hamilton, John Jay’s fellow New Yorker and close ally in the Federalist cause, famously died on July 12, 1804, following a duel the previous day with Aaron Burr. Duels were fought over political differences and personal ones between the elite classes in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century America and Europe. Take a docent-led tour of John Jay’s Bedford House highlighting Jay’s connection to this deadly cultural practice and his relationship with Hamilton. Tours at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm. Regular admission fees apply.
