Do we use any objects like this today?
Yesterday’s Mystery Object was a Bed Key.
Bed keys were used to tighten the ropes of rope beds. Instead of box springs or boards, ropes were used in a bedframe to hold the mattress. Holes in the frame would allow for the rope to be weaved back and forth across the frame opening. When the ropes got too loose and started to sag, a bed key would be placed where the rope came to the outside of the frame. The rope would be slid into the gap of the key and twisted. This twisting would make the ropes tight again.
