John Jay’s Bedford House is open for tours Wednesday through Sunday at 1, 2, 3, and 4pm.

The 1pm, 3pm, and 4pm tours are the standard house tour.

The 2pm tour is our daily thematic tour. Please check the calendar for details.

On Saturdays we offer a special 25-minute Highlights Tour at 10, 10:30, 11, and 11:30am.

The number of tickets available for each tour is strictly limited. We strongly recommend you purchase your tickets in advance.

The Carriage Barn Education & Visitor Center is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12:30pm to 4pm. On Saturdays, the Carriage Barn Education & Visitor Center opens at 10am.

The Discovery Centers are open Wednesday through Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Holiday Tour

Celebrate the holiday season at John Jay Homestead with a guided tour of John Jay’s historic Bedford House focused on the holiday traditions and decorations of the 1820s.

The number of tickets available for each tour is strictly limited. We strongly recommend you purchase your tickets in advance. Please note that all members of your party are required to have a ticket for admittance, even if there is no fee associated with their ticket. Tickets are transferable, but not refundable.

The Holiday Tour is offered Thursday through Saturday at 1pm, 3pm throughout the month of December.

We recommend that you arrive 15 to 20 minutes in advance of your tour to watch our orientation video shown in the Glass Porch of the Historic House Museum. Tours leave promptly as scheduled. You may not join a tour once it is in progress.

Thematic Tour—John Jay & George Washington

220 years ago, on December 14th, George Washington died at the age of 69.  This tour will discuss how John Jay and George Washington worked together to help build the new nation and shape its identity on the world stage.  It will also explore the enduring friendship between the two men.

Experience John Jay’s historic Bedford House as it takes on the glow of candlelight to celebrate the holiday season. These unique guided tours of John Jay’s historic Bedford House focus on holiday traditions and decorations of the 1820s.

The number of tickets available for each tour is strictly limited. We strongly recommend you purchase your tickets in advance. Tickets are not refundable.

The Candlelight Tours are offered on select Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in December at 5pm, 5:30pm, 6pm, 6:30pm and 7pm.

Object of the Week
Frederick Jay’s Pewter Tobacco Jar

The jar is engraved with classical decorations and the initials “F.J.,” for Fredrick Jay, John Jay’s brother. Tobacco jars were common during the colonial period, when pipes were the most common method of smoking.
