Historic House Tour for Families

  • April 25, 202011:30 am–12:00 pm

What was life like 200 years ago? Compare your everyday life with the way the Jay family lived in the early 1800s. This 25-minute tour of the historic house, designed for families with children 10 and under, will focus on the lack of modern conveniences and its impact on everyday life through examining objects such as chamber pots and open-hearth toasters. Children must be accompanied by an adult; adults must be accompanied by a child. Free admission.

The number of tickets available for each tour is strictly limited. We strongly recommend you purchase your tickets in advance. Please note that all members of your party are required to have a ticket for admittance, even if there is no fee associated with their ticket. Tickets are transferable, but not refundable.

The Historic House Tour for Families is offered Saturdays at 11:30am.

We recommend that you arrive 15 to 20 minutes in advance of your tour to watch our orientation video shown in the Glass Porch of the Historic House Museum. Tours leave promptly as scheduled. You may not join a tour once it is in progress.

Music from Copland House – SPOTLIGHTS, NEW AND DISTANT

  • April 26, 20203:00 pm–5:00 pm

America’s musical past and future meet when the internationally-acclaimed Music from Copland House ensemble – hailed by The New Yorker as “bold,” “adventurous,” and “superb” – moves its popular mainstage concert series to the John Jay Homestead this season. With its unique focus on 150 years of American musical creativity and imagination, explored within broad historical and societal contexts, MCH concerts – included among Westchester magazine’s “Best of the Decade” – offer ear-opening discoveries and surprising cultural journeys. The ensemble’s season features World and New York Premieres, revivals of 19th- and 20th-century masterworks, new pieces written by the 2020 Fellows of Copland House’s highly-anticipated CULTIVATE emerging composers institute (directed by Derek Bermel), and music inspired by the Gilded Age, and by the intersection of music and visual arts. Each program will last an hour, without intermission, and will be followed by a meet-the-artists reception.

Journeying across a century of instrumental virtuosity and “star-turns,” animated by gospel singing, Latin rhythms, Baroque chamber music, and French country idylls. World Premiere by John Musto (Piano Trio No. 2)*, plus works by Derek Bermel (Soul Garden), Aaron Jay Kernis (Air), Arthur Foote (Nocturne), and Ernest Bloch (Concertino for Flute, Viola, and Strings). MCH ARTISTS: Marina Piccinini, flute; Magdalena Filipczak and Curtis Macomber, violins; Danielle Farina and Paul Neubauer, violas; Thomas Kraines and Clare Monfredo, cellos; Michael Boriskin, piano. Additional concerts in this series:

June 14, 2020 – CULTIVATE 2020

Individual tickets: $25, $20 (Friends of Copland House, Friends of John Jay Homestead, and Friends of Lyndhurst). Any 3 concerts: $69, $54 Friends. All 5 concerts: $105, $80 Friends.
