Yesterday’s Mystery Object was a fireplace shovel.
It was frequently used to remove leftover ash from the fireplace. This ash would be collected and thrown away so that it would not pile up in the fireplace. The shovel could also be used for lifting hot coals out of the fireplace itself to use in bed warming pans or foot warmers.
