This plaster bust of Revolutionary War Naval Commander John Paul Jones was done by French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon in 1787. Often referred to as “The Father of the American Navy,” Jones had several copies of the original marble bust made and sent to John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, and other important figures in the Early Republic. The original is at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Come see the bust and learn about John Jay’s relationship with Thomas Jefferson during our Thematic Tours offered Thursday through Saturday at 2:00pm throughout the month of April.
