Thursday, January 11. Russell Shorto, Revolution Song: A Story of American Freedom. Shorto tells a story of the American Revolution through six very different lives: British, African, Seneca, colonial; men and women; famous and obscure. A master in the field of “narrative history,” he is also the author of six other award-winning books, including The Island at the Center of the World, and a contributing writer at The New York Times Magazine.
All lectures take place in the Iselin Wing at John Jay Homestead. Registration and refreshments begin at 6:30 pm. Lectures begin at 7 pm.

Happy birthday, Alexander Hamilton! As members of the New York Federalist Party, John Jay and Alexander Hamilton worked together to ensure the United States Constitution was ratified by state political leaders. They collaborated on The Federalist Papers project, a series of essays still used by the Supreme Court in their interpretation of the Constitution. Take a docent-led tour of John Jay’s Bedford House highlighting the relationship between these two friends. Tours depart from the glass porch of the Main House at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm. Regular admission fees apply.
