Thematic Tour: John Jay and George Washington

April 15, 2017 1:00 pm–5:00 pm

On April 15, 1794, President Washington sent John Jay to London to negotiate a treaty with Great Britain in hope of preventing another war. In commemoration of this event, take a docent-led tour of John Jay's Bedford House highlighting the relationship between Jay and Washington. Tours leave from the Glass Porch at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Regular admission fees apply.

Spring Garden Lecture: Andrea Wulf: Founding Gardeners

For the Founders of our country, gardening, agriculture and botany were elemental passions. Wulf will explore the story of the revolutionary generation from the unique perspective of their lives as gardeners, plant collectors and farmers. Presented by Friends of John Jay Homestead, Bedford Garden Club, Rusticus Garden Club, the New York Unit of the Herb Society of America and Hopp Ground Garden Club.

Family Teaching Garden - Seeds

John Jay Homestead is partnering with InterGenerate to present the Family Teaching Garden Series.  Families will learn through hands-on work how to plant and tend a vegetable garden while exploring plant parts, ecology and, of course, bugs! This year, the Teaching Garden will also be a Giving Garden as the food we grow will be distributed to those in need.

Advance registration required as space is limited. $20/family
