Bee Day @ John Jay

Meet our beekeeper at the Homestead’s apiary to learn more about our bees and beekeeping.
11:00 am Introduction to Beekeeping – for those interested in learning about the basics of keeping and caring for honey bees. We will discuss how to get started with beekeeping and how to develop the skill needed to be successful.
1:00 pm Meeting of the Westchester Beekeepers Network. This meeting is designed for individuals who are already keeping honey bees to network and share information. This meeting will be held at the newly renovated John Jay apiary working with live bees. The apiary has a collection of different types of hive equipment. If you’re an area beekeeper stop by, check it out, and connect with fellow beekeepers. Bee jackets will be required.
3:00 pm Gardening for Bees. With the growing awareness of the importance of bees and pollinators, this session is designed to help area gardeners learn how they can support bees by planting plants that are supportive to bees. The meeting will be held at the historic John Jay herb garden. If you’re an area gardener that would like to learn about plants for bees this is your opportunity.
