Be an Object Detective – can you guess what today’s Mystery Object is?

Here are some questions to answer about the object:

Looking at this object, can you guess what material it is made of?

How do you think this object was used?

Do we use any objects like this today?

Yesterday’s Mystery Object was a Lamp

This object is made out of tin. Unlike most other lamps, it would used a very wide wick. With a wider wick, the firelight would glow brighter. However, this lamp caused a lot of dark smoke and burnt pieces of wick would fall from the top. These pieces are called “snuff”. To keep them from falling on the floor or table and making a mess a “snuff dish” is at the bottom of the lamp to catch any falling pieces or dripping oil.
