Be an Object Detective – can you guess what today’s Mystery Object is?

Here are some questions to answer about the object:

Looking at this object, can you guess what material it is made of?

What shapes do you see when you look at this object?

This object has a handle. What do you think this object would hold or carry?

Yesterday’s Mystery Object was an Ice Shaver.

It is made of metal with a wood handle. I shavers were used to slice thin pieces of ice. This ice shaver has a clamp at the bottom so that it can cling to a table. Ice would then be put in the top of the shaver. The lid would be put back on and pressed down as the crank was turned. Inside the grater is a round piece of tin with a blade, as the crank turned the piece of tin would move with it and the blade would shave small pieces of ice from the larger piece.
Shaved ice was usually used to keep food cool as it was being served (such as oysters).
