Yesterday’s Mystery Object was a Pair of Gaiters.
Made of leather, these gaiters were commonly used by soldiers who rode on horseback. Also called “half- chaps” these leather pieces would be buckled around each calf. Worn over the pants above the shoe or boot, gaiters would protect the clothing from rubbing against the stirrup straps and saddle which would wear away the fabric.
