School's Out Summer Movie

June 23, 2017 6:00 pm–9:00 pm

Celebrate the start of summer vacation at the Homestead’s Family Outdoor Movie Night featuring Grease. Enjoy dinner from popular food trucks Melt Mobile and Walter’s Hot Dogs, gourmet popcorn from Mill River Confections, wines from South Salem Winery and craft beers generously donated by Captain Lawrence Brewery. Live performances by School of Rock’s House Band and kids activities by Breezemont Day Camp. Bring a chair or blanket to eat, play, watch and relax! The night is sponsored by Breezemont Day Camp. Presented by Friends of John Jay Homestead & Delamata Designs. Food and activities begin at 6pm, movie starts at dusk.

Rain date is Tuesday, June 27.

Family Teaching Garden - Spring Harvest

June 25, 2017 4:00 pm–4:45 pm

John Jay Homestead is partnering with InterGenerate to present the Family Teaching Garden Series.  Families will learn through hands-on work how to plant and tend a vegetable garden while exploring plant parts, ecology and, of course, bugs! This year, the Teaching Garden will also be a Giving Garden as the food we grow will be distributed to those in need.

Advance registration required as space is limited. $20/family

Thematic Tour: The Declaration of Independence

July 2, 2017 1:00 pm–5:00 pm

We all associate July 4th with a fun day marking our nation’s independence. But what was it really like in Philadelphia during the summer of 1776.  Take a docent-led tour of John Jay’s Bedford House to discover how Jay and the other Founders felt about independence from Britain and what the Declaration of Independence did for Americans. Tours are scheduled for 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm. Please purchase tickets at the Carriage Barn Education & Visitor Center. Regular admission fees apply.

Independence Day Fair

Join John Jay Homestead and the Rotary Club of Bedford-Armonk in a celebration of America’s founding with a spirited reading of The Declaration of Independence, live music, food, crafts, games, house tours, and plenty of other activities on the grounds of John Jay Homestead. The drama of Adams, Franklin, Jefferson, Hancock, the vote for American independence and the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence brought to life by an exceptional, non-traditional cast. Presented through special arrangement with MTI by Bedford Parks and Recreation’s Bedford Community Theatre in association with John Jay Homestead. 1776 was the winner of the 1969 Tony for Best Musical.

Admission: $35; $25 for members.

Thematic Tour: The Death of Alexander Hamilton

On July 12, 1804, Alexander Hamilton died after he was shot by Aaron Burr the previous day.  In recognition of the 203rd anniversary of Hamilton’s death, take a docent –led tour of John Jay’s Bedford House that highlighting the relationship between Jay and Hamilton. Delve into the exciting world of spying, espionage and secret agents. Learn the tools and methods people have been using to spy on each other since ancient times. Discover what it takes to become a secret agent through games, activities and special guests. Join us if you dare! Spy Camp runs from 9am to 3:30pm and is for children entering 2nd-6th grade. $300/child. We offer a 10% discount for registrations received by 4/1 and a 10% discount for family level members of Friends of John Jay Homestead. History Travel Camp - The Museum Experience

Explore the way museums, zoos, historic houses and other cultural sites develop and present their programs.
