Thematic Tour: Connecting to Collections – Fine Arts (Portraits)

It was said that Gilbert Stuart could fix his subject’s “very soul” on canvas. During this tour experience, view a selection of the Homestead’s extraordinary collection of portraits and discover how artists depicted people long before the “age of the selfie.” This installment of our Fine Arts Tour offers a guided exploration of: Chief Justice John Jay after Gilbert Stuart, Egbert Benson by Gilbert Stuart, John Jay by John Trumbull, John Paul Jones plaster bust after Jean-Antoine Houdon, and Colonel William Jay by John Singer Sargent. Regular admission fees apply. Additional installments of this tour, examining other pieces from our fine arts collection, will be held on the first Sunday of June, July, August, September, and October. Check our calendar of events to see which pieces will be studied on each of these occasions.
